In 2023, Ashton Central Mosque was honoured at the British Beacon Mosque Awards — selected from over 300 nominations across 11 categories, with 30 shortlisted finalists judged by an independent panel. We received two awards recognising our commitment to community service, education, and leadership.
Best Run Mosque
The Best Run Mosque award recognises mosques that demonstrate exceptional standards in governance, community engagement, financial transparency, and service delivery. The judges described Ashton Central Mosque as "a shining example of community engagement and positive change."
Community Initiatives Recognised
Taste Ramadhan
An annual programme welcoming non-Muslims to experience iftar during Ramadhan, fostering understanding and community cohesion.
Macmillan Coffee Mornings
Regular charity fundraising events in partnership with Macmillan Cancer Support, bringing the wider community together.
Community Food Banks
Ongoing food distribution supporting vulnerable families across Ashton-under-Lyne, with dedicated volunteers and partnerships.
Sahih al-Bukhari Recital
Traditional recitation programme preserving and sharing the most authentic collection of prophetic traditions.

Ashton Civic Society Building of the Year (2011)
Recognised for its "innovative design combining elements of traditional Islamic architecture with modern building materials and polychromatic brickwork."
Most Impactful Imam
Imam Ghulam Mohyuddin was recognised with the Most Impactful Imam award for his outstanding service and leadership. The judges described him as "a highly dedicated and impactful religious leader who has made significant contributions to his community in various capacities."

Developed Islamic education systems serving approximately 300 students with 8 teaching staff across Hifz and Qur'an recitation.
Friday Sermons
Delivering inspiring and relevant khutbahs that address both spiritual and contemporary community needs.

Active participation in interfaith initiatives, building bridges with other faith communities and civic organisations.
Pastoral Care & Chaplaincy
Providing compassionate support, counselling, and spiritual guidance to community members in times of need.
