Alhamdulillah, Ashton Central Mosque was nominated for two awards at the British Beacon Mosque Awards 2023.

It is an absolute honour and we are proud to announce that Imam Ghulam Moyhuddin won the ‘Most Impactful Imam’ award and Ashton Central Mosque won ‘The Best Run Mosque 2023 ‘

There were over 300 nominations in 11 different categories and we were among 30 shortlisted finalists. The independent panel of judges made their decision based on, amongst other things, the evidence we submitted.

  • Food Banks: Ashton Central Mosque’s commitment to helping local families in need, regardless of their background, has made a significant impact. They have been recognized for this effort by the local media.
  • Sahih al-Bukhari Recital: Hosting the full recital of Sahih al-Bukhari with esteemed scholars in 2019 was a remarkable achievement, drawing students from across the UK and beyond. This event contributed to preserving and transmitting the most authentic version of Sahih al-Bukhari.
  • Community Fitness and Scouts: Offering fitness and yoga classes, as well as organizing adventure weekends and mosque visits, Ashton Central Mosque caters to the physical and spiritual well-being of its community.
  • Building of the Year Award: Their excellence in form and spirit was acknowledged in 2011 when they received the Building of the Year Award.

Imam Ghulam Mohyuddin of Ashton Central Mosque in Ashton-under-Lyne is a highly dedicated and impactful religious leader who has made significant contributions to his community in various capacities. Here are some key highlights of his accomplishments and roles:

Educational Leadership: Imam Ghulam Mohyuddin plays a pivotal role in the mosque’s Madrasah, where he has developed and implemented an Islamic education system. Under his guidance, the Madrasah now serves approximately 300 students and employs eight teaching staff. He has also initiated and overseen a Hifz program at the mosque, resulting in a number of students completing their Hifz. Many of these accomplished Hufaaz are under the age of 20 and lead the recitation during Ramadan.

Cultivating Respectful Young Muslims: Imam Ghulam Mohyuddin’s vision goes beyond producing students of Islamic knowledge. He aims to nurture young Muslim adults who are not only knowledgeable but also confident and proud of their faith within the UK. Community Engagement: Imam Ghulam Mohyuddin extends his efforts to various community-based duties, including:

  • Serving as a chaplain for the Tameside Mayor.
  • Visiting local schools and hosting school visits at Ashton Central Mosque for over a decade.
  • Conducting adult Islamic classes.
